Clarke House Museum is the oldest surviving building within the original Chicago city limits. The house, built 1836 for merchant Henry Brown Clarke, is a rare example of Greek Revival domestic architecture in Chicago. Moved twice—the second move leaving it airborne for two weeks—it is now located in the Prairie Avenue Historic District and interprets family life in the formative years of the city before the Civil War.

Clarke House Museum is operated by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, furnished to the period 1853-1860 by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Illinois, and interpreted through a partnership with Glessner House Museum.
